This test is aimed at young adults 18+, adults, or seniors who suffer from fibromyalgia and may have a related cognitive impairment. Although fibromyalgia usually affects more women than men, this evaluation is useful for both. Any individual or professional user can easily use this neuropsychological battery. .
This online fibromyalgia test lasts about 30-40 minutes..
Fibromyalgia is a disease that affects many areas of a person's life. This disease is not limited to chronic pain or fatigue but also involves psychological and cognitive areas (what is known as "fibrofog").
This online innovative fibromyalgia test assesses the cognitive performance of people with chronic pain and fatigue. Discovering how the main cognitive skills (such as attention, processing speed, working memory, planning, etc.) which can be altered by this disease can serve as a predictor of the quality of life of patients, as well as help us to know the effectiveness of the treatments that are being carried out.
Clinical consultations and medical history, as well as questionnaires, assessment scales, and screening tests are very effective tools for detecting these cognitive problems. However, to know the depth of the impairment, it is necessary to carry out an exhaustive evaluation of the different cognitive functions through a neuropsychological assessment. Note that CogniFit does not directly offer a medical diagnosis of fibromyalgia. It is recommended to use this complete fibromyalgia or fibrofog test in addition to the professional diagnosis and not as a substitute for a clinical consultation.

When should you use this fibromyalgia test?
When should you use this fibromyalgia test?
With this evaluation battery it is possible to reliably detect the risk of presenting symptoms and cognitive deterioration related to Fibromyalgia or Fibrofog in young adults, adults or seniors.
People with PTSD, or those who have been in a car accident, are more likely to have fibromyalgia.
Early detection failure or lack of necessary adapted tools make daily functioning very difficult and can lead to problems in areas such as the workplace, social or family interaction and emotions.
Fibromyalgia, fibrofog, pain and frequently associated chronic fatigue can cause widespread deterioration and difficulties in work and social functioning. Mainly you can differentiate between:
Joint and muscle pains
It is a diffuse, nonspecific pain that affects many different parts of the body (usually all 18 points of pain). Pain in Fibromyalgia has some peculiarities such as allodynia (pain from painless stimuli), hyperalgesia (pain greater than normal in relation to painful stimuli) and persistence (it is present for longer than normal).
Psychological symptoms and state of mind
Anxiety and depression are often linked to fibromyalgia and are thought to be caused by or to occur during the course of the illness.
Associated symptoms
Sleep and skin disorders are highly common in this disease and there are also many symptoms related to gastrointestinal disorders.

Description of the diagnostic criteria questionnaire
Description of the diagnostic criteria questionnaire
Fibromyalgia is characterized by a number of signs and symptoms. These indicators may make us suspicious about the presence of this disorder. Therefore, the first step of the Cognitive Assessment for Fibromyalgia Patients (CAB-FB) consists of a questionnaire with screening questions that are adapted to the main diagnostic criteria and symptoms appropriate to each age group.
The questions presented here are similar to those that can be found in a diagnostic manual, questionnaire or assessment scales but have been simplified so that they can be understood and answered by virtually anyone.
It is made up of a series of simple questions that can be completed by the user, or by the professional in charge of the assessment. The questionnaire gathers questions about the following areas Muscle and joint pain (generally located in the 18 points of pain), psychological symptoms and mental state (the psychological state is important when related to the daily life ot the person affected by this disease) and associated symptoms (derived problems, such as sleep disorders, skin disorders, etc.).

Battery description to assess neuropsychological factors involved in fibromyalgia
The presence of alterations in some of the cognitive abilities may be an indicator of fibromyalgia. An overall profile of cognitive abilities can tell us how intense is the extent of cognitive impairment derived from this disease.
Cognitive problems associated with fibromyalgia can significantly alter the state of different abilities, such as attention, processing speed, working memory, planning, and reaction time thus reducing patients' quality of life. The detection of this deterioration is important so as to improve the functionality and independence of the users with the proper intervention.
These are the domains and cognitive skills assessed in the fibromyalgia test (CAB-FB):
Attention
Ability to filter distractions and focus on relevant information.Excellent
7.8% above average
Focus and Fibromyalgia. Focus is the ability to concentrate our attention on an objective stimulus, regardless of how long it lasts. Often, people with fibromyalgia have difficulty focusing on the relevant and appropriate stimuli or events of each situation.

Working memory can be defined as the set of processes that allow us to temporarily store and manipulate information to carry out complex cognitive tasks such as language comprehension, reading, mathematical skills, learning, or reasoning. People living with fibromyalgia show degraded performance in working memory when compared to people without this disease, especially in the presence of distractors. This can have a major impact on more complex tasks.

Our Digital Cognitive Assessments
CogniFit digital tests are designed to measure a specific areas of cognition and are grouped together to form customized batteries based on the unique requirements of the study design and population. Learn more about our different tests and how they can support the unique needs of your study by exploring the details and demos below.
The Speed Test REST-HECOOR exercise was inspired by the classic test of Fingertip tapping from the assessment battery NEPSY (Korkman et al., 1998). The test-taker is required to keep on clicking for 10 seconds and as rapidly as possible with the mouse, or finger if using a touch-screen device, in a defined area on the screen. Data is collected as the number of clicks during the allocated time, number of clicks inside the defined area and number of clicks outside it.
The Resolution Test REST-SPER was inspired by the classic paradigms Go/No Go Task (Gordon & Caramazza, 1982), Continuous Performance Test (Conners, 1989; Epstein et al., 2001), and the Psychomotor Vigilance Task (Dinges & Powell, 1985). The test-taker is required to rapidly press on circles which appear on the screen and to ignore hexagons should they also appear. Embedded in the task are 16 circles-only items and 8 circles-and-hexagons items. For each item data is collected on response time, response accuracy and cursor distance from target center.
Multimodal Lexical Memory Test
The Identification Test COM-NAM is based on the Boston Naming Test (Kaplan et al., 1983) and by the vocabulary test from the WAIS-III (Wechsler, 1997). For each object shown, the test-taker must choose from three possibilities: 1) the item is presented for the first time in the task or 2) the last time it appeared the item was spoken or 3) the last time it appeared the item was presented as a picture.
Visual Working Memory Span Test
The Concentration Test VISMEM-PLAN took as a reference the Corsi block-tapping test (Corsi, 1972; Kessels et al., 2000; Wechsler, 1945). In the first part of the task, some circles, within a fixed array of circles, light up. The test-taker is required to memorize which circles, within the array, have lit up and then try to reproduce the sequence in the right order. In the second part of the task, a delay of 4 secs is added between the first screen and the playback screen, in order to increase the time the user must retain the information.
Eye-Hand Coordination Test Fixed Trajectory and Predictable Direction
The Synchronization Test UPDA-SHIF is based on the Vienna Test System (VST) (Whiteside, 2002). In this task the test-taker is required to carefully and precisely track a ball which moves along a path. The distance in pixels between the center of the ball and the cursor moved by the user is considered to calculate the accuracy score.
The Equivalencies Test INH-REST was based on the classic Stroop test (Stroop, 1935). The test-taker is asked to press on the spacebar (go action) only if the color names on the screen are printed in the matching color and to refrain from pressing (no-go) if the color of the letters does not match the printed color name.
The Simultaneity Test DIAT-SHIF stems from the classic Stroop test (Stroop, 1935), the Vienna Test System (Whiteside, 2002), and the Test of Variables of Attention (Greenberg et al., 1996). The test-taker is required to accurately follow a ball moving and turning in all directions on the screen while, at the same time, performing a variant of the Stroop test.
The Sequencing Test WOM-ASM is based on the classic direct and indirect digit test of the WAIS-III (Wechsler, 1997). The test-taker is required to remember and reproduce increasingly longer number sequences, which appear, each in its turn, on the screen. The task will begin with a two- -number sequence.
The Decoding Test VIPER-NAM was inspired by the Boston Naming Test (Kaplan et al., 1983) and by the vocabulary test from the WAIS-III (Wechsler, 1997). The test-taker is required to click on the first letter, among four of them, that spells the name of the object depicted on the screen. For example, for the picture of an apple, the test-taker should click on the letter “A” but not on the three incorrect responses (C, P, M) also present on the screen.
